We understand literacy as a plural ability that makes "reading the world" possible.

Why are we so passionate about Literacy4All?
Because more than 793 million adults in the world (1 out of 4) cannot read. Of those, 64% are women and 122 million are girls.
Because in low income countries, the majority of students do not acquire basic literacy skills even after completing four years of schooling.
Because in countries like the United States, 32 million adults can't read and 19 percent of high school graduates are unable to read a full sentence.
Because 61 million school age children are out of school.
Because 171 million people could be lifted out of poverty if all students in low-income countries left school with basic reading skills.
Because poorly literate individuals are less likely to participate in democratic processes.
Because a child born to a woman that can read is 50% more likely to survive past the age 5.
Because reports show that low literacy directly costs the healthcare industry in the U.S. over $70 million every year.
